TV Girl and Monster Rally have teamed up to bring you “Average Guy (Blame)”. TV Girl has added vocals and a new arrangement to Monster Rally’s track “Blame” off of the Beyond the Sea LP.

The track is being released in anticipation of TV Girl and Monster Rally’s very special performances in Los Angeles (4/27 at the Bootleg) and San Diego (5/25 at Soda Bar).

The next release on Gold Robot Records will be the debut LP by LA-based Young Hunting. Hazel will drop on June 11th as a limited edition 12”, there will be only 500 copies available. You can pre-order the album now. One person will be chosen at random from the first 100 pre-orders to receive an original test pressing as an added bonus.

Los Angeles quintet Young Hunting’s debut full-length album Hazel begins with gentle, lush dream pop and ends with stark, desolate gothic folk. The record, inspired mostly by failed affairs, a divorce, and life in the shadow of LA’s show-business culture, took the band two years to produce. Primary songwriters Hari and Ilya first met in 2007, quickly bonding over a shared appreciation for Nick Cave, Jason Molina, Can, and the classic California pop of the 60s and 70s. Tracks for “Hazel” were recorded in various locations around Southern California, including a former ranger’s station in the Angeles National Forest, Grandma’s Dojo studio in LA’s Koreatown, a rented one-bedroom desert house outside of Joshua Tree, and living rooms, garages & guest houses in Echo Park.

Check out a new video for RUMTUM’s “New Lands”, off his split 7” with Catamaran, directed by Elissa Hastings. IMPOSE dropped it yesterday with the perfect description:

“New Lands” drips with the musty echoes of flowing water and stalactite droplets, but the visuals, in kaleidoscopic abundance, are of the beneficiaries of those running waters. From the bloom to the wilt, Elissa Hastings video mirrors RUMTUM’s ever-evolving production. Just as RUMTUM gives way to a new sample, she lets a tulip deteriorate. We are told that talking to our flowers will help them grow, but Hastings’ video suggests that playing it some RUMTUM is just a beneficial.

I just wanted to thank everyone who came to the recent Gold Robot Records + Father/Daughter Records + Small Plates Records showcase during SXSW. Björn Kleinhenz has released a new video for the track “Fårö”, which is taken from the beautiful album The Fall of Discontent which you can stream on his bandcamp page. The video is directed by Jonas Börjesson.

On March 23rd, the German label JellyFant Records will release a limited edition 12” for the LP. It features a screenprinted black box and will also contain photographs from his collaboration with Simon Rydén.

South by Southwest is a big ol’ music festival in Austin Texas. My band, Seamonster, has been asked to perform down there on March 15th. This is fairly short notice, and I’d need to fly there and I simply cannot afford to do so at this time. BUT I’d really love to get down there SO I’ve decided to have a TUMBLR BOOK SALE FUNDRAISER THINGEE.

I read A LOT of books. In my closets I’ve got a few hundred extra books piled up that don’t fit on my shelves. I figure some of you might be nutty bibliophiles like myself and be interested in snagging some crazy book from my personal library - so I’m putting this paypal donation button down here.

If you donate TEN DOLLARS or more, I will send you a book at random, and I will also include a handwritten thank you note with a tiny drawing in it as well (since besides making music as Seamonster, I’m also a cartoonist) also, if you don’t have the new Seamonster record yet if you donate FIFTEEN DOLLARS or more I can send you mp3s of that too if you want - the more you donate, the bigger the book I’ll send.

Subjects are all over the map, from biographies and poetry to music writing, philosophy, fiction, classics literature, and art history. I know this is a silly way to raise money for airplane tickets and travel costs, but maybe that makes it slightly more awesome? I don’t know. Nine months after sharing the demo of “Empty City,” the guitar-wielding counterpoint to Casey’s more electronic persona Yalls has returned with “Endless Calm.” In an email, Casey described the visuals as “my own little Tree of Life creation sequence.” I don’t know about you, but from where I’m sitting, it’s a crazily windy Thursday afternoon with the setting sun bouncing off a glass building and straight into my eyes, and a leisurely guitar jam like this is about all I want to hear.” - Duncan Cooper

Our good friend Cuzzo D (part of Not the 1s) recently dropped a hilarious mixtape called Bad at Rap via the fine folks at Dublab. I’ll let Passion of the Weiss give you the synopsis:

This is just a masterful collection of the most wretched of random rap — from Joey Lawrence and Hulk Hogan and the Wrestling Boot Band, to Dee Dee Ramone, Brian Wilson, and David Faustino. There is Gerardo and there is Vanilla Ice. To top it off, he includes Darryl Strawberry’s “Chocolate Strawberry,” which is unquestionably the prized piece of my vinyl collection.

Later this month, Monster Rally (aka Ted Feighan) will be having his first New York gallery show at the End of Century gallery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The show will feature several of Feighan’s recent works comprised almost entirely of paper collage and highlight the artwork of Monster Rally. The opening reception will be on Friday January 18th from 6-9PM and will feature a 1-hour special performance by Monster Rally in the gallery space. A small amount of the out-of-print Monster Rally vinyl will be for sale at the opening while supplies last. The show will run for one month.
